On a recent Friday, 23 employees of Prometheus Real Estate Group found themselves both exhausted and exhilarated after a day of hard work. The group donated their time and talents to help create a sense of home for the residents of the Valley Village Retirement Community. August 26th, 2011, saw the employees (known internally as “Prometheans”) partner with the Housing Industry Foundation (HIF) for the 2nd Annual Volunteer Workday. Interior walls were painted, outdoor signage was improved, landscaping was updated and, along with donations from several local vendors, new carpets and countertops were installed. It was all an extension of Prometheus’ Outreach and Community Help Program: POrCH.
Local contributors included Avery Construction, AAA Gardening, Braddock and Logan, Brook Furniture Rental, Color Studio, CORT Furniture Rental, Empire Community Painting, FastSigns, Floormasters, Inc., JMI Flooring, Kelly-Moore Paint, Mohawk Flooring, and Richard McPherson Architectural Engineering.
The 23 Prometheans donated more than 180 hours of company time. This was part of a program at Prometheus that promotes volunteerism and has, to date, made available more than 1,900 hours of company time for community involvement. Along with HIF, the improvements to Valley Village Retirement Community, valued in excess of $58,000, were completed for less than $3,300.
Prometheus President Jackie Safier is a champion of the program. “We donate a substantial portion of our proceeds to charitable foundations focused on education, the arts and healthcare. POrCH is another great way to give back.”
